Since September 20th, the winter season has started on the glacier. The Grawand lift and slope are in operation until 12:30, starting from Saturday, October 5th, they will be open all day. The last ride of the glacier cable car is at 16:30. The Lazaun cable car will remain open until October 6th.

PROFESSIONAL SKI TRAINING ON THE GLACIER

The ski training center in Val Senales in South Tyrol

National Alpine and Cross-country skiing teams from all around the world come to the Val Senales Glacier to prepare for the winter ski season. The ideal high altitude, guaranteed snow, perfectly groomed slopes and minimal waiting time for ski lifts all make the Val Senales Glacier a well-known high altitude training destination for world class athletes. All of the hotels in the town of Maso Corto/Kurzras  are located within easy walking distance of the valley station of the glacier cable car, which brings you to the training area in only 6 minutes.
 

Reservations for the slopes are mandatory in order to guarantee a smooth training process. The training slopes will then be assigned to the respective teams.

The ideal conditions on the Val Senales Glacier also make it an ideal high altitude training center for other disciplines  - like biathlon, canoeing or swimming.

WHERE IS THE SKI TRAINING CENTER LOCATED?

The ski training center is located right on the Val Senales Glacier in South Tyrol, which is less than an hour’s drive away from the spa town of Merano. Lying at over 3,000m above sea level, the glacier offers ideal snow conditions from early autumn until late spring. The training center can be reached in only 6 minutes via cable car, starting at the town of Maso Corto/Kurzras.

Since it lies at over 3,000m above sea level, the Val Senales Glacier guarantees snow reliability from the end of September until the beginning of May. WHERE CAN GUESTS OF THE SKI TRAINING CENTER STAY AND EAT?

The Glacier Hotel Grawand, which lies at the upper station of the glacier cable car, is ideal for our training guests. The slopes start right at the door, and the hotel offers high quality catering (self-service at lunch), as well as a small sauna area. The Smart Hotel Firn  in the town of Madonna di Senales/Unser Frau welcomes training guests at low costs, offers a copious breakfast and even a small spa area for after the training session.

HOW MANY SLOPES ARE THERE IN THE SKI TRAINING AREA?

The Grawand slope in the ski training area offers about 40 different training tracks with varying difficulty. The slalom and giant slalom training slope “Leo Gurschler” holds additional alternatives. It’s 550m long, has a gradient of almost 60% and a difference in altitude of 200m.

CAN SKI TRAINING GROUPS BOOK A SLOPE?

Yes, to avoid waiting times, the booking of the slopes in advance is mandatory. Slopes will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis, depending on availability.
