The Val Senales ski area in Italy: slope map, lifts & opening hours of the facilities

Would you like to know where to ski in Italy? Southy Tyrol is ideal for skiing, whether in October or in April: the slopes at Alpin Arena Schnals are (already or still) open when the ski season in the Alps hasn’t begun yet or is already over.

This is due to the altitude of the Val Senales glacier. Late season skiing in Italy in the Val Senales valley is possible thanks to slopes that start at over 3,000 metres above sea level. Here, you can see an overview of the open slopes and lifts in the Val Senales valley – from the Schnalstal Glacier Cable Car to the Grawand and Gletschersee Chairlifts and the Skilift Finail.

Please note that in the Italian Alps, the ski season and opening hours of the pistes and lifts may undergo changes due to weather conditions.

Schnalstal Glacier Cable Car

The majestic Hochjochferner glacier lies along the border between Austria and Italy. The glacier cable car overcomes more than a thousand metres in altitude in six minutes and takes guests from Maso Corto up to 3,212 metres. Every year from September to May, winter sports enthusiasts hit the slopes at this world class 185-acre natural park. The glacier is equally suited to beginners and experienced skiers, as well as families. The real crowd pleaser is especially the 8 km long Schmuggler downhill slope leading into the valley.

Sledging is a tradition in South Tyrol and is still very popular with young and old. The sledging trail, roughly 3 km long, in Lazaun in front of the Schnalstal Glacier guarantees plenty of fun. It is located on the right side of the Val Senales/Schnalstal valley and runs from the mountain hut Lazaunhütte past the hotels of Maso Corto/Kurzras. A difference in altitude of 430 m must be overcome. The easiest way to ascend is by the cable car. And no genuine sledging party is complete without calling in at the rustic Lazaunhütte.

Also a lot of amateur cross-country skiers choose the Hochjoch track to do their season warm-up.

Our ski area in Italy: open, when others are still in “summer sleep”

At the Val Senales glacier in the Italian Alps, the ski season is in full swing when the late summer sun is still shining in other places. Or when springtime has long melted the last bits of snow. The slopes at the glacier start at over 3,000 metres and offer optimal conditions even outside of the regular ski season in the Alps.

Thanks to prolonged opening hours of the skilifts, we are the ideal place for late (and early) season skiing in Italy. Training guests, professional athletes, as well as amateur skiers regularly enjoy this benefit.
