Outdoor sports in winter
The right equipment for exercising in the cold
Temperatures are dropping outside, maybe even the first snow is falling and instead of exercising in the cold, you'd much rather hide under the covers with a cup of hot chocolate until it gets warmer again? That’s understandable, but you could be in for a ‘rough’ spring awakening if you're out of breath just climbing the stairs and your back starts to ache when you're sitting down.
You can easily avoid this by doing winter sports in the Alps, for example at Alpin Arena Senales.
How to get in shape during winter?
There are a few things you can do to ensure that you feel well and healthy in the wintertime. Expose yourself to daylight as often as possible, as this lifts your spirits and improves your immunity. Strike the right balance between rest and exercise. A healthy diet and sufficient sleep also improve your resistance during the cold season. Alternating showers or sauna sessions promote blood circulation. On the other hand, not wearing appropriate clothing for fashion reasons might give you a cold. However, the best remedy for winter blues and boredom is and will always be outdoor sports in winter.
That many people are enthusiastic about winter sports becomes evident not only in the viewing figures for the major race events, but also in the fact that the slopes, cross-country trails and paths in the Alpin Arena Senales fill up every year just in time for the start of winter. Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and the like are among the most popular winter sports - and we are perfectly equipped to offer you an unforgettable experience!
Is it good to exercise in the winter?
In principle, there is no reason to avoid sports in winter. It strengthens the immune system and humidifies the mucous membranes, making them more resistant to germs. It also naturally builds up muscles, which boosts the metabolism, i.e. burns more energy, and warms the body from the inside. Thanks to the increased oxygen supply, you feel fitter and less tired.
Nevertheless, you should take it a little slower when doing outdoor sports in winter than in the warmer months because the strain on the body is greater. For example, you may also notice that you tire more quickly, need longer recovery times or have a higher heart rate. In this case, it helps to reduce the exertion a little, for example by walking or running slower.
What should I bear in mind?
If you exercise in the cold, you should warm up well beforehand, breathe through your nose during exercise if possible so that the air is warmed up before reaching your lungs, keep warm afterwards and take off any wet clothing. The right winter sportswear consists of functional underwear, several layers of clothing as required and a waterproof jacket. Of course, your winter sportswear should also include a hat or headband and gloves, as well as footwear or any additional equipment needed for the sport in question. As a skier or snowboarder, you should tie a scarf or special mask over your mouth and nose to make it easier for your body to warm up the air when doing winter sports in the Alps.
