Schnals Valley
From the flowering vineyards at its entrance, the Schnals Valley stretches over a few short kilometres to the glaciated mountain tops of the Ötztal Alps. Thanks to its diverse and distinctive natural and cultural landscape, the Schnals Valley is one of the most fascinating valleys in the entire Alps. The discovery of Ötzi, the glacier mummy, and the annual driving of sheep –
the transhumance - over the main ridge of the Alps, are proof that hunters and shepherds have been travelling through the Schnals Valley for thousands of years.

ipotsch - Schnals Valley - South Tyrol
Tradition
Since time immemorial, mountain farming and traditional crafts have gone hand-in-hand in the Schnals Valley, the aim being to retain the sustainability of authentic products and above all to increase added value for the valley and its mountain farmers.
Origin
The wool in these intelligent (i) slippers (Potsch) comes only from Schnals mountain sheep, which are perfectly suited to life in this Alpine region. The felt is made in one of the most prestigious loden and felt factories in South Tyrol.
Properties
The high-Alpine grazing land with its herbs and minerals provides the sheep with ecologically premium pasture. The wool in these felt slippers has proven itself, for example, through optimum thermal balance and tremendous durability.
UNESCO Heritage
We now know for certain from prehistory and early history research that transhumance, starting out from Val Senales, South Tyrol and moving via partly-glaciated high mountain passes to pastures in the Ötz Valley in Northern Tyrol has existed for at least 6,000 years.
Transhumance is, generally speaking, a special type of nomadic pasture farming in which livestock, in particular sheep, alternate between pastures. According to the UNESCO jury in 2012, cross-border and cross-glacier sheep herding in the Alps form Val Senales and Ötztal Valley fulfil the requirements and have now been inscribed on the intangible cultural heritage list.
Warranty
The ipotsch product are warranted for hand made, ecologic and etic production.
